We just became aware of an issue with Super Paper Mario that has just been released in the USA. It works fine on US consoles. But if you want to play this game on a PAL or Japanese Wii, be it from an original disc or a backup, make sure you upgrade your Wii firmware to the latest available version before inserting the game.
The game contains an NTSC-U Wii update that is not compatible with early European and Japanese Wii firmwares. Failure to upgrade your Wii with the latest firmware before running Super Paper Mario USA on an import system can result in a bricked Wii.
This issue is not specific to CycloWiz, you'll have the same problem with any other region free mods/tricks. It doesn't brick the chip, but the Wii itself, so be very careful !

The news are good today. First of all, we received two new Wii consoles for testing, one from Japan and one from Hong Kong. Both have the new drive revision that was spotted in Taiwan last week. Guess what, while the drive PCB is different, CycloWiz has been tested and is 100% compatible with the new boards ! Not only is it working as usual, but it is possible to install it using quick-solder method, as the alignement of the points didn't change. While CycloWiz works fine, this is not the case for some other mods for which a wire needs to be soldered directly to a chip's leg because they use an extra solder point that has now been removed.
We also added upgrade 3.0B to the download section. It's similar as 3.0 except that it's now compatible with D2B chipset. Users that already upgraded to 3.0 do not need to upgrade.

We got quite a few emails asking for information on what switch to use. Any toggle switch should do the job, as well as push buttons that don't need to be held. A switch will be included with CycloWiz in the next batch, so you won't need to buy one separately !
Here are a few remarks regarding the upgrade:
- If you turn off your console during the welcome screen or switch test screens, make sure it is in deep sleep mode for at lest 10 seconds, it won't recognise discs until you do it. If you have any doubts, unplug the console for 10 seconds.
- If you get stuck in a Programming - Verifying loop for more than 10 cycles, it is likely that there is an installation problem with the S wire. You have to turn off the console to fix this, but make sure you never turn it off before trying at least a dozen cycles. We got two reports of this behaviour and it was fixed both times.
- Make sure the switch pads are not in contact with any metal part of the Wii, including shielding. If there is such a short circuit, the fuse next to the X point can blow and drive won't spin or eject anymore until you fix the fuse.

Yes, the upgrade is real and is now online in the download section ! We weren't able to complete D2B tests in time to meet the deadline, but a D2B compatible version will follow shortly.
A special version of GCOS was also added thanks to emu_kidid. It allows you to run GC Multi Game discs and thanks to is fully compatible with old Viper format.

The upgrade will be released tomorrow as expected. See you then ! :)

We were asked if the chip disable wire going to the Reset button is needed to upgrade. No, it's not needed! Some people are also wondering what kind of tests we are performing. Here is a picture of a part of our testbench. It's a time consuming task, we're making sure everything runs smoothly on a lot of different drives, consoles and chips so that everything will fine on each and every user setup. It also helps us find bugs, a couple were already fixed since last post :) Stay tuned...

Sorry for the lack of news lately. While we didn't update the site we tried to keep up with support mails as we wanted to wait for something concrete for the site. We clearly underestimated the time needed to create the upgrade disc and we apologize for that.
First of all, solving the slowdown issue was only possible by changing the whole firmware structure.
Technically speaking, up until now the chip was becoming transparent just before disc started to spin. It was not possible to use this method while using full speed reading. This major structure change lead to some other problems that had to be resolved and a lot of testing and debugging had to be performed. That alone took much more time than what we expected, but we now have an elegant solution, the chip becomes transparent as soon as the disc is initialized. The other major challenge was making an upgrader with a GUI, what we didn't plan to do at first. While it sounds simple, the complexity of the task was not properly evaluated.
We are happy to say than both the new firmware and the upgrader are entering testing phase. While we still have to fix a couple of minor bugs and test it on several consoles, we are really close to the public release.
We already sent the current version of the upgrader to a few respected sceners. One video of the upgrader in action on a first generation CycloWiz has already been put online here. We know that people don't want videos or reviews, but be assured that it's only a question of days : the testers are free to release the alpha upgrader should we not provide a final upgrader within one week. We'll keep you updated daily until it's released. We hope this clarifies the situation.

02/16/2007 (Read yesterday's post for an important announcement)
It has been reported that some current generation mods suffer from the old "Idle Disc Read Error (DRE)" bug that was frequent in early badly designed GC modchips. Some people wrongly concluded that it could be the case with CycloWiz, but fortunately it just can't be, and here is why.
The Wii drive, unlike GC drive, is aware of standard DVD format. Standard DVDs can be read by any Wii (yes, an official DVD player is in theory possible) but as a protection mean some commands used by games are disabled when a standard DVD is inserted.
CycloWiz job is to re-enable those commands. Unlike some other mods, CycloWiz lets the original Wii firmware handle every aspects of DVD reading. In fact, CycloWiz is probably the only chip on market that doesn't use bitsetting at all. That way, no continuous patching is needed and no desynchronisation can occur. As soon as the disc starts spinning, CycloWiz becomes transparent (you could even remove it!), it's all in the drive's hands.
We won't say that it's impossible to get a DRE with CycloWiz due to media. Simply use a good burner with good media and and you'll never have to worry about DRE. We are also aware of an unrelated deterministic DRE problem with three PAL games. We will provide an upgrade correcting this issue in a couple of days, along with some surprise features :)

Important Announcement
It has come to our attention that a limited number of Cyclowiz units from the latest batch have an issue which will disable functionality. Due to a problem at the PCB factory, the A, B and C points of the CycloWiz are connected together. Unfortunately, some of them were already shipped to customers. All customers should verify that they do not have one of the affected Cyclowiz before installing their chip. Please refer to our identification guide below.
We offer a free replacement for each defective unit through our retailer network. Should you have a defective unit, please contact your retailer to arrange replacement immediately.
Those who do not wish to wait for a replacement unit can try to fix the chip by themselves, should they so desire, using this tutorial. Should you wish to try this method but are ultimately unsuccessful, we'll replace the chip even if it's damaged during the modification procedure.
We will also offer free replacements with D2B chipset support for people who have a D2B console and a CycloWiz from an the first batch which doesn't support D2B chipset. If your chip came in a branded CycloWiz ESD bag, it means that it already supports the D2B chipset.
We apologize for the inconvenience caused to those affected. Customer satisfaction is very important to us, we'll make sure this kind of problem won't happen again. Should you have any questions, feel free to contact: support@teamcyclops.com

We just updated the english installation manual with a more detailed procedure for quicksolder in order to avoid any alignment problem. Manuals in Dutch, French, German, Spanish and Swedish were also added to the download section.
Regarding CycloWiz upgrade feature, we'll say it once again, CycloWiz is fully upgradable via DVD. While an official upgrade is not ready yet, we'll demonstrate the feature in the next few days, as it seems there is a demand for it.
Our R&D team is working hard on the D2B chipset, we'll have some news about it later today or tommorrow, so stay tuned!

There were some issues with the website earlier today, they should now be solved. Sorry for the inconvenience.
02/06/2007 (Updated)
It is unfortunately confirmed that a new drive chipset was just released. While it's extremely rare for now (we had to fight two days to find one), it does exist. CycloWiz is not compatible with this drive (D2B). If you bought your console end of January of February, please make sure that you have a compatible drive before ordering or installing a CycloWiz. We'll keep you informed about our research on this drive.
An installation manual was added in the download section.
As you can see, an external switch is needed to enter or leave programming mode. This physically insures that the chip doesn't get flashed by mistake, or for some other reason. The upgrade feature was also made so it's not detectable by the Wii at all.

Welcome to CycloWiz website !
Look at the features page for the official feature list, we left the best for last, a nice little trick up our sleeve, that's sure to please all.... The chip is fully upgradable, so future proof, and the feature list will be improved over time!
The first batch of chips were sent on the 2nd of February to the retailers, so end-users will start receiving theirs on the 7th of February. Of course the installation manual will be posted in the meantime.
Real website to be launched soon, including a support forum. For once our R&D team was faster than the web designer :)
